Schubert’s Winterreise

Sunday 10th November

Schubert’s Winterreise is one of the most unique and fascinating song cycles written in the Romantic era. The poems Schubert set to music are masterpieces in themselves and any performance of the songs will highlight the importance of both music and word.
Award-winning and critically acclaimed English Baritone Alex Poulton will use the intimate setting of the Great Hall of St Nicholas Priory to tell the story of Schubert’s wanderer and his experience of the winter landscape of his feelings.
During the evening, we will introduce the audience to the Romantic period of musical and poetic creation, the conception of the poems, their language, expression and how Schubert’s musical setting enhances, adds and creates even more layers of meaning and emotion.
