For more than 40 years, BBC’s Antiques Roadshow has enthralled television viewers with the range and diversity of treasured objects classed as ‘antique’ and the guessing game surrounding their value. Equally fascinating are the unseen exchanges between keen members of the public and the long-suffering experts called upon to sift out the treasures from the trash and break the good (or bad) news to their owners. Dorset-based Paul Atterbury is a writer, lecturer, broadcaster, curator and social historian. During a life of unexpected diversity, he has written about 50 books on art and antiques, railways and canals, WW1, and other topics. He has been a member of the Roadshow’s team of experts for over 30 years.
